Description:
The St. Thomas More Newman Parish serving the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou) and two other colleges is accepting applications for a full-time, post-graduate Resident Campus Minister. The Resident Campus Minister position is a one-year commitment (June 1, 2025 - May 31, 2026) with an option to renew for one additional year. The Resident Campus Minister reports directly to the Director of Campus Ministry and serves with a team of priests, four other professional campus ministry staff, parish staff and FOCUS missionaries.
The Resident Campus Minister has primary emphases in ministries related to evangelization, our weekly large group fellowship, and retreats. The Resident Campus Minister lives in an apartment at the Newman Center and works as a part of the Campus Ministry Team to serve the collegiate and parish community through practical ministry and a ministry of presence.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and supervise weekly large group ministry.
- Support new student outreach.
- Intentionally accompany 2-3 students through one-on-one spiritual mentoring.
- Mentor student leaders with evangelization and retreat leadership roles.
- Support FOCUS missionaries in accessing building and data resources for Bible Studies.
- Coordinate food hospitality, including shopping, for weekly and seasonal events.
- Facilitate nightly rounds to close down the building.
- Coordinate cleaning and care of campus ministry spaces.
- Serve in a supporting role for our retreat program.
- Be an active presence at the 8 pm Student Mass and support other events led by students.
- Attend mission trips and/or other trips, as needed.
- Staff parking lot for Mizzou home football games (shared by campus ministry staff).
- Become a member of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association
- Fulfill office duties in a timely manner.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
- Practicing Catholic.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience as a student in Campus Ministry required.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for the ministry.
- Courses in theology desired.
- Experience in small group Bible studies preferred.
Compensation consists of an apartment (utilities and parking included), hourly pay and benefits.

Director of Service & Justice (FTE)
This position would support a united group of students and residents committed to act with compassion and justice through education, action, reflection and prayer. Since the position upholds Catholic Social Teaching, the candidate should be a practicing and confirmed Catholic in good standing.
Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in service and justice related activities required.
- Provide formation to the parish on Catholic Social Teaching, and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Collaborate with our faith formation positions.
- Connect with, collaborate with, and facilitate the involvement of our parishioners (students and residents) with the following:
- The two other Catholic parishes in Columbia and St. Francis House (Tri-Parish Health Ministry, St. Vincent de Paul at Lourdes, Language program at Sacred Heart, etc.);
- University and college departments and programs to plan actions that integrate faith with campus service and justice efforts (Missouri Alternative Breaks, Leadership and Service, Tiger Pantry, justice efforts);
- Columbia Interfaith and Ecumenical groups (Loaves & Fishes, Room at the Inn, Love Columbia, My Life Clinic, Interfaith Garden, etc.);
- Columbia community agencies and programs to better integrate and meet the needs of the programs with our parishioners’ desire to serve. (Voluntary Action Center, Turning Point, Welcome Home, True North, etc.);
- Diocesan groups such Catholic Charities, Pro-Life events, Missouri Catholic Conference. Collaborate and find greater opportunities to involve residents and students. (Missouri Catholic Conference Day in October, Midwest March for Life, March for Life, Catholic Charities service opportunities);
- State and national connections with USCCB, Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Volunteer Network, and long-term service opportunities to better involve our parishioners (CRS College Ambassadors, attendance at the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering in Washington, DC).
- Coordinate the Tithing Committee.
- Fluency in Spanish greatly desired.
- Provide historical knowledge and back-up administrative support to volunteer leaders in various social justice ministries and facilitate communications of volunteer leaders with necessary staff members for planning.
- Provide a ministry of presence by participating in various Newman service opportunities.
- Coordinate and lead parishioners (both student and resident) on diocesan, state, national, and/or international trips and conferences.
- Be ready to respond quickly and to direct Newman efforts in cases of natural/human-made disasters (either locally, nationally, or globally) consisting of education, action, and prayer.
- Be the staff go-to person for supporting someone in economic distress, establishing data collection, and fostering relationships with them.
- Facilitate communication of Virtus expectations for volunteers and volunteer leaders and follow through on having volunteers trained. Hold volunteers accountable.
- Supervise and train Service & Justice Intern, with regular meetings (weekly/biweekly). Conduct performance evaluations biannually.
- Oversee the Service & Justice budget, assisting volunteer leaders in the allocation of funds.
- Share information with the Director of Advancement for grants in the area of service and justice.
- Serve as an ex officio member of the committee of the Martha Trauth Social Justice Education Endowment Fund.
