Baptism
Congratulations on the birth of your child! To have your child baptized at Newman, you must be a registered parishioner and participate in one baptism preparation session with Deacon Charlie Ochoa. These sessions are offered every other month and, unless you've had a child baptized in the last three years, attendance is required for both parents prior to the child's baptism. The best time to attend the class is during early pregnancy.
Steps:
1. Download and complete Baptism Prep Worksheet and send it to Deacon Charlie: [email protected]
- Note that baptisms typically happen during Sunday Masses, but can be requested for a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon
- Fr. Dan, Fr. Andrew, and Deacon Charlie are available for celebrating the baptism
2. Download and complete the Godparent Worksheet
- Note that one godparent must be a baptized, confirmed, and practicing Catholic and get the permission of their pastor
- A baptized non-Catholic can stand in as a Christian witness
- Once completed, please send this to Deacon Charlie: [email protected]
3. Attend your baptism class with Deacon Charlie

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults assists adults who are interested in becoming Catholic or returning to practicing the Catholic faith. OCIA sessions meet weekly throughout the year. The sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation are celebrated at the Easter Vigil. Team members (resident and student parishioners) volunteer in a variety of ways with the OCIA process. They may assist with teaching, as sponsors, with rituals or in various other ways. To learn more about participating in OCIA, you can attend an inquiry session on most second Sundays of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Disciples Room.
First Eucharist preparation begins in the second grade. We do ask all families who want to participate in First Eucharist preparations to complete First Reconciliation preparations as well. Contact Emily at
If you are a baptized Catholic who has completed high school and who has celebrated your First Communion, but for whatever reason was not able to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, you are invited to prepare for and be Confirmed at the St. Thomas More Newman Center.
