Service & Social Justice

Newman Volunteer Corps

Newman Volunteer Corps is a program committed to helping both student and resident parishioners grow in compassion through education, action, reflection and prayer on social justice concerns. Each month, NVC offers programming aimed at education, action, reflection and prayer. In the fall, NVC offers a Day of Service to Newman, bringing parishioners together for a prayer service or Mass and then offering service projects that help spruce up the Newman Center. In the spring, NVC participates in the ecumenical, community-wide day of service called ForColumbia.  Check out the NVC page for more details and events. Contact NVC at nvc@comonewman.org find out what’s coming up and check the weekly email and student bulletin for more information.

Spring Break Mission Trips

For student parishioners only, Campus Ministry offers at least one spring break trip each year for you to spend your break serving others in need and learning about the issues that keep them in a cycle of injustice.  Fundraising hours earned by working the parking lot before home football games or calling during the annual thank-a-thon can discount the cost of the trip significantly!  Previous mission trips have worked with the poor, homeless, immigrants and disaster victims. Additionally, we offer international mission trips in even numbered years to our sister parish in El Salvador. Other mission trips are available through focusmissions.org. The trips will be announced in August (see the bulletin and weekly email for updates). The deadline to sign up will be in September so that you will have enough time to work the fundraising hours.

Help Newman and Meet Great People!

Did you know that Campus Ministry sells season parking passes for home football games to help fund a large portion of our ministry to college students? We’d love to have your help in the parking lot on game days. If every student offered to work 2 hours each year, we’d have more than enough help to facilitate this great fundraiser. Plus you get to meet the nice patrons of the parking lot and build relationships with other students. Students fundraising for the Campus Ministry Mission Trip may earn fundraising hours by helping in the parking lot. There are also opportunities to help on the Thursday and Friday before each game. Email Angelle at angelle.hall@comonewman.org.
